Badke(remix)
Badke is a deliberate inversion of dabke, the name of the Palestinian folk dance that serves as the catalyst for this performance.
Palestinian performers trained in traditional dabke, contemporary dance, hip hop, capoeira, and circus perform a contemporary version of this dance, which is traditionally reserved for (wedding) parties. This is a remix of a 2013 creation of the same name.
Badke (remix) is not a search for supposedly lost authenticity: it calls on both the collective vitality of tradition and the longing to be part of a world outside of it. Lively connections arise between tradition, folklore, individuality, modernity and change. And yet violence occasionally seeps in through the festive surface, like cold gusts of wind blowing through the cracks of a badly insulated house.
In short: Badke(remix) embodies the joy of life, the power of collective energy, and the desire to dance as a form of resistance … until we drop.
After the show, you can keep dancing at the afterparty in the BRONKS café. BOKA DJ mixes Hip-Hop, Afro, Amapiano, breakbeats and Dancehall into an irresistible sound. The perfect moment to wrap up the EXPORT/IMPORT FESTIVAL in style.
